Enrolling for apprenticeships in India is primarily managed through the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), a government initiative that connects ITI students with employers for one year of industry-specific training. This programme provides on-the-job training, a monthly stipend, and a certificate upon completion.
Eligibility and Requirements
To register on the NAPS portal, you must meet the following criteria:
- Age and Fitness: You must be between 14 and 60 years old and physically fit.
- Qualifications: You must possess an ITI certificate.
- Documentation: You need digital copies (JPEG or PNG) of your Aadhaar card, a recent photo, your digital signature, and your ITI certificate.
- Contact Details: A valid mobile number and a professional email ID are mandatory for account activation.
The Registration Process
The registration is conducted online through the official website: www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in.
- Sign Up: Click ‘Register’ on the top right of the screen and select ‘Candidate’.
- Personal Details: Enter your details, ensuring your name matches your Aadhaar card exactly.
- Activation: After submitting, note your registration number and check your email for an activation link to verify your account.
- Profile Completion: You cannot apply for opportunities until your profile is 100% complete. This includes filling out the ‘About Me,’ ‘Education,’ and ‘Preferences’ sections.
- Aadhaar Verification: A critical final step is entering your Aadhaar number for verification to confirm your identity.
Finding and Applying for Opportunities
Once your profile is ready, you can use the Apprenticeship Opportunities menu to search for roles.
- Filtering: Use filters to select your preferred location, industry, course type, and qualifications.
- Keywords: Search using specific terms related to your trade to find the best fit.
- Application: Click the ‘Apply’ button for a position. The company will review your profile and may invite you for an interview.
- Contracts: If selected, the company will issue a contract. While you may receive multiple invitations, you can only sign one contract at a time on the portal.
Managing Your Applications
Your Candidate Dashboard helps you track your progress through three main sections:
- Contracts: Shows any signed agreements with employers.
- Applications: Lists all the positions you have applied for.
- Invitations Received: Displays requests from companies that have viewed your profile and want you to apply.
